An internal investigation is underway at Willunga Hill following a particularly disappointing weekend of racing for the team.
The team entered the weekend needing just a handful of points to meet one of it's short-term objectives -- entrance in the Div 1.1 downhill race Bytom-Katowice with Carl Durbridge as leader -- and 3 races to get them. It managed none.
Firstly, Christopher Koopu was given the armband for the Climbs of Pinchor, but with his support team performing terribly, he could only manage 10th.
That left two races where the team's young gun TTer, Paul Sa'u, was expected to deliver. First, there was the U23 sprint race, the Cottbus Classic, but Paul had an off day and faded to 13th. The next day, in Westerstede Zeitfahren, a race well-suited to his capabilities, he scored an injury instead of points.
Only McLaren can now deliver the points in time for Bytom-Katowice, and that in the Div 2 classic Lappi Sea GP, where McLaren managed 7th last season when in better condition.
More serious for the team's season objectives is Sa'u's injury, which comes at a particularly bad time. Management has confirmed that Paul will not recover in time for one of his two season objectives: the U23 individual time trial Malbork TT. That will leave just the U23 World Championship TT in his goal list for the season.
The findings of the investigation will not be announced, but the team's head honcho, Coulter, said he expects that changes are afoot.
